AICC CONFERENCE 2023 - Industry Day - Independent Agronomy in Action

AICC CONFERENCE 2023 - Industry Day - Independent Agronomy in Action

01 February 2023

The AICC has evolved into not only the largest body of independent crop consultants in Europe, but also the preferred source of advice on for approaching 50% of the UK Arable advice market. All members of AICC are bound by a code of conduct which has at its heart the ethos that the only source of income to any AICC member shall be their consultancy fee and nothing else.  Here we explore how those leading the field in providing truly independent advice to members have expanded and we look at the different routes into independent agronomy.  The AICC recognise the crucial role that young people moving into this industry play and, in order to recognise the importance of youth and succession, we created the AICC Academy (AICCA), which now has 63 members. Each academy member is currently working alongside an established AICC member.  AICC members clients usually source recommended inputs via a product sourcing group.  Some of these groups are run solely for the use of clients of AICC members and others are via a network of mainly “farmer owned” buying groups, both are focused on helping the AICC adviser maximise the output and quality of their growers’ crops throughout the season.

The first session of Industry Day look at how truly independent advice benefits growers, the various routes into agronomy and how buyting groups support independent agronomists.

Chaired and introduced by Sarah Cowlrick, CEO of AICC and Andrew Blazey, Chairman of AICC, Rob Ding and David Boulton from Indigro explored the growth of the business and David talked about why he chose the independent route.  James Southagte of Prime Agriculture outlined his career path into Prime Agriculture and how independent agronomists source their information and support networks.  Emma Martin and Howard Nason from Crop Advisors and Matthew Cobbald, Fram Farmers illustrated the effective buying and methodolgy of buying groups.
