AICC AT CEREALS 2017

10 May 2017

Cereals Event showcases how extensive trials and innovative technology underpin a positive future for independent agronomy

With approaching 50% of the UK’s arable acres under the advice of an independent crop consultant, it is clear that independent agronomy is stronger than ever. However access to extensive independent trials results and innovative technology that have no commercial bias, is key to being at the forefront of delivering this technical excellence.  This is what the Association of Independent Crop Consultants (AICC) and its member agronomists stand for.

“As an Association we conduct a series of national field trials that are principally involved in testing and comparing the performance of current and near market agrochemicals in order to assist our crop consultants make the most cost effective recommendations for their farmer clients,” says AICC CEO, Sarah Cowlrick.

“Visitors to the AICC stand at Cereals will have the opportunity to discuss the very latest results from these trials, and take the opportunity to look at our winter and spring cropping programmes that reflect advice that is truly commercially independent, whilst still significantly impacting farm profitability.”

Cereals Exclusive Launch

Using technology that streamlines and improves crop production decisions is very much part of the AICC remit and at this year’s Cereals event, the AICC will be launching a unique and innovative field monitoring, satellite image tool.

Developed in conjunction with Farming Online, this tool allows growers and agronomists to see real-time data on crop development and bench mark their crops against the same crops within their region.  It is designed to identify potential problem areas within crops during the growing season to support management decisions and will be available to use via mobile phone, tablet or PC.

”A smartphone app has been developed alongside this, which allows users to select the fields they want monitored. This app is already being used by members of the AICC and to date we are recording information on 16 crops across the UK,” says Mrs Cowlrick.

AICC is also part of the Cereals Knowledge Trail providing a wealth of experience from all parts of the country and leading AICC crop consultants will be available to comment on issues such as the impact of rotation and variety choice on weed and disease management and the cost of inputs relating to this years’ growing season and thoughts for 2018.
